A whirlwind that follows my movement and ideas.

A whirlwind that follows my movement and ideas: SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG DN | Art

- Alina Schessler

I always kept my equipment reduced, at the beginning because of the lack of a budget; and later out of conviction. I like to travel light. When I decide to take just one lens, my choice is almost always the SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art. It is simply a classic. Combined with my full-frame camera, it’s both light and fast – it gives me the ability to react quickly and capture moments exactly as they happen.

I like to photograph beautiful things and beings – however not in the sense of beauty standards. More like something that inspires me, that I like to surround myself with.
When I was searching for a topic for this project, I looked deep inside myself and followed a longing feeling:

Spring. My favorite time of the year.

Every year around this time, when the trees turn green, the air gets warmer and the birds start to sing, it blossoms: the joy of life. I want to get out in nature, throw myself in the grass, feel it, smell it.
This year, after one year of lockdowns, and staying home, this desire seems so much stronger than usual.
I wanted to try to capture this feeling, to express it in my personal form of photography.

To be honest: I’m not really a “tech nerd”, who reads a thousand reviews and always knows about the latest features. For me, the actual feeling I get using the new lenses is far more interesting, than their technical specifications. I am rarely euphoric when it comes to new focal lengths, because I usually stick to my standard set up. But admittedly: this time, when it came to the all new SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG DN | Art, I got curious, because this one is supposed to be even faster and lighter now.

While shooting, I jump around like a whirlwind, so this is really a jackpot for me.

In the past, I often had focus problems because of this and, I can’t even say how grateful I am to the technical progress, with the fast autofocus of the new lens and the combination with a mirrorless camera, this is no longer an issue at all and I can fully concentrate on jumping from subject to subject.

Also, there is now an aperture ring among other new things – I totally like being able to adjust even more mechanically now. In general, the lens feels much more robust than its predecessors – which is good, because I’m the kind of person who just throws the equipment into the camera bag.

All in all the new SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is a fantastic lens which convinced me with its beautiful and natural look, its robust build and the super fast auto focus. I am looking forward to using this lens as my daily partner.
